Amaravati, the most-hated name in Andhra Pradesh in the last four years and even now; not because they don’t want a capital; not because they hate Buddhism; but because of the way the TDP and its community had handled it.

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for announcing creation of three capital cities for the state evoked strong resistance from Telugu Desam Party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

The TDP is caught in a toughest situation with Jaganmohan Reddy making a statement on three capitals for the State, diluting Amaravati’s importance.

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s statement in the assembly suggesting three capital cities – executive capital at Visakhapatnam, legislative capital at Amaravati and judicial capital at Kurnool – in place of a single cost-intensive mega capital at Amaravati, has become the biggest topic for debate in the media.

The ruling YSR Congress had exposed the opposition TDP in the Assembly on Amaravati deals.

The previous Telugu Desam Party government in Andhra Pradesh headed by N Chandrababu Naidu had proposed to develop a grand capital city at Amaravati in a huge extent of 53,000 acres at a cost of Rs 1.09 lakh crore.

If YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s statement in the state assembly becomes a reality, Andhra Pradesh will have three capital cities in three different regions to have a regional balance and a decentralised administration.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu had established a set of rules in and around Amaravati in the last four years.
